Common Frequency's Comment on the Future of Media

Common Frequency provided a comment to the FCC concerning the FCC's inquiry into the Future of Media (GN Docket No 10-25).  It can be read here.

NCE Reserved Channels Filing Totals In

The filing window for 67 reserved commercial channels for noncommercial use ended October 26, 2010.  With that, the FCC has made the applications submitted available online through their public access CDBS.  It appears over 320 applications had been submitted for the 67 channels available.  Of the 320 or so applications submitted, the following was observed:

CHIRP to launch January 17

The Chicago Independent Radio Project, or CHIRP, aims to begin streaming January 17, 2009.  The project evolved out of frustration over the current state of broadcast radio which is completely disconnected from new music and the local community.  Because of the ongoing suppression of LPFM in the last decade by the likes of NAB, broadcast licenses were unobtainable by the group.  The culmination of two years work has resulted in funding for a studio and operation through a website.

FCC Launches New Webpage

FCC launches reboot.FCC.gov today.  The site was developed "to solicit[ing] public input on ways to improve citizen interaction with the FCC" including redesigning FCC.GOV so it is easier to use, posting FCC data a manner in which it is more transparent, and seeking comments on ways the public can better interact with the Commission's rulemakings and policies.
